Lanarians are the dominant race on the planet Kavrillia.  Anthropologists would argue that there are several sub-races within the "Lanarian" classification, but for social and political purposes the term is adequate.  Lanarians all have brown hair, although shades may vary.  Skin tones vary from a light yellowish-green to a deep turquoise.

Lanarians originated on the northernmost continent of Kavrillia, and spread from there to geographically dominate the planet.  Lanarian science was responsible for the first space travel, and thus the majority of people not living on the homeworld are Lanarian.

The term "Lanarian Empire" is somewhat misleading, since many of its citizens are of Vincaran descent.  In fact, the homeland of Vincaria itself lies within the Empire's borders.  Still, the Vincarans are the minority.

The Lanarian government is headed by an Emperor or Empress.  The previous ruler may choose anyone to succeed him or her, although the three-hundred member Council must approve the decision and can vote to remove someone from the throne at any time.  Traditionally, either the oldest child or the oldest son inherits the throne, but no law prevents non-relations from suceeding to the throne.  

The Council is responsible for many of the Empire's legislative actions.  The monarch is served by a triumvirate of advisors known as the Royal Advisory Board.  Each star system beyond the home world is ruled by a colonial governor who is appointed by the monarch.  The military is headed by three Supreme Commanders, the eldest of whom is afforded slightly more authority and is called the Senior Supreme Commander.
