What is The Redwall Map and Riddler?
The Redwall Map and Riddler is a booklet that contains a small puzzle book and a large poster showing places in the Redwall books. The map was published concurrently with The Long Patrol, so any places Mr. Jacques has added since do not appear. Also, the most southerly locations in Mattimeo are missing.
What is the Build Your Own Redwall Abbey kit?
The Build Your Own Redwall Abbey kit is a big blue folder that contains a short story called "The Warrior's Code" and punch-out tagboard pieces that allow you to put together a model of the Abbey. Many characters from Redwall are also included as little paper cutout figures. For more info, see this page.
What is the Redwall Friend and Foe?
Redwall Friend and Foe is in the same format as the Redwall Map and Riddler. The booklet contains short biographies for the main characters in the books up to and including Lord Brocktree. The large poster has portraits of the greatest heroes and heroines of Mossflower in the center, with the worst villains around the outside border. The artwork is all new, and quite good!
What are the Redwall Tribes books?
The Redwall Tribes books are in the same format as Redwall Friend and Foe and the Redwall Map and Riddler: a small booklet with a large fold-out map. Each one is devoted to a species from the Redwall world, and features pictures and biographical information on major characters from the books who belong to that species. So far Badgers, Otters and Mice have been released, and more, including hares and shrews, are in the works. See the Redwall Newsline for the latest.
What's this about a Redwall opera?
An opera company in Delaware did a Redwall opera a few years ago, telling the events of the book Redwall. Mr. Jacques did attend a performance. Unfortunately the show was only put on for a limited time, and as far as I know there are no plans to do it again. To my knowledge, there is no soundtrack or libretto available.
Will there ever be a Redwall cookbook?
Mr. Jacques resisted this idea, afraid that children would wander off in the woods and find something dangerous to eat, but now it sounds as if there will indeed be a Redwall cookbook. Stay tuned for updates.
Are those hand-painted figurines available?
Yes. Figurines of Martin, Rose, Matthias, Bungo and Grumm are all available. Prices range from about 20 to 50 American dollars. I don't know if any more are planned. Visit this site for more info and ordering instructions.
Will there ever an audio tape of the songs from the books?
There are no plans at this time for such a project.
Are there Redwall computer or video games?
No. Brian Jacques doesn't care for video games very much. At some time in the future, some sort of interactive Redwall CD is possible, but no plans are finalized yet.
Is the Redwall animated series available on home video or DVD?
DVDs and VHS cassettes in both European and North American format are available, but it's sometimes quite difficult to find them in stores. Ask at your local bookstore or electronics store and they can special-order some for you, or buy them online. So far only the first series, of Redwall, is available on DVD in North America. There are six episodes on the first DVD and seven on the second. Hopefully Mattimeo and Martin the Warrior will follow.
Did Brian Jacques have control of the look and plot of the animated series?
Yes. He waited to give permission until he found an animation studio (Nelvana) who would allow him creative control.
Will there be animated versions of any books besides Redwall, Mattimeo and Martin the Warrior?
Possibly, but Snowfur doesn't follow the animation news very carefully. She's more interested in the books. She recommends this site for more information on Redwall animation.
Why aren't there more Redwall items for sale?
Mr. Jacques doesn't want his characters to become over-commercialized. Also, it was best to wait until after the animated series was complete before producing many souveniers, so they'd match the look of the show.
What other Redwall merchandise is there?
Besides the books, there are great audio tapes of most of
the books, many of which have Mr. Jacques narrating!
If you're very lucky, you can sometimes find Redwall trading cards, posters and bookmarks,
but they are extremely rare and usually only available to the media, bookstores, or to
fans at booksignings. Sometimes an item like this will pop up in an eBay
auction. Keep your eyes peeled!
